Ponta da Piedade

The Ponta da Piedade is not to be missed. Three kilometers from Lagos, Ponta da Piedade is a wedge of dramatically stunning cliffs showing off orange tinted, speckled sandstone. In spring, hundreds of egrets come for nesting, and the area is dazzling with wild orchids. Venture down the seemingly endless steps and take a tour of the grottos with a local fisherman.

Camilo Beach

Camilo Beach is nothing short of beautiful. The view from the top of the cliffs, which surround the beach, is magnificent, and swimming is relaxing in the sheltered bay. The local restaurant on top of the cliffs specializes in freshly caught seafood and is very popular with the local residents.

Parque Zoologico de Lagos

For families with small kids, the Parque Zoologico de Lagos (Lagos Zoo) is a great place to spend a few hours. The zoo is more like walking through a natural forest rather than just seeing animals in cages. There is an abundance of colorful, tropical birds, and the monkeys are especially entertaining.

Museu Municipal Dr. Jose Formosinho

For history buffs, the Museu Municipal Dr. Jose Formosinho has archaeological collections dating back to the pre-Roman era. There are numismatic collections, a section of religious vestments and altar cloths and paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. The attached church is impressive for its baroque design.

Onyria Palmares Golf

The 27-hole Onyria Palmares Golf course is a challenge for golfers of all skill levels. Every hole has a stunning, picturesque view of the seaside. The course is a little hilly, with hints of Scottish courses and is always in impeccable condition. The abundance of elevated tees gives golfers the opportunity to hit their longest drives.
